Play Description
After fleeing her life in the Fraser Valley, Colleen is forced to return home for her father’s funeral. Amidst the casseroles and caskets she is confronted by who she was and who she wants to be, and when neighbours come knocking and secrets are revealed, family tensions explode. Through humour, honest conversations, and fiery arguments, one family must pick up the pieces of a broken life and figure out what it means to belong to one another.
We are especially excited for our actor friends on this one. It’s a great scene-study play where every character has a lot of depth – a true actor’s script!
Available Roles
We welcome applications from all races, genders, sexual orientations and religious backgrounds. We are eager to have diversity in our casting.
Colleen - (F, Early-mid 30s) Colleen is smart, witty and in a dark place. She recently ended a relationship with a married man: Mark. She is a Corporate Accountant, working for the last six months in Edmonton in an attempt to get space from the situation at home.
Miriam - (F, Early 30s) Miriam is a homemaker and a doer. She is married and has two kids. She can sometimes speak without thinking and she can be sharp, but she has a big heart.
Alanna - (F, Mid 20s) Alanna is light, funny, easy to love and the peacemaker of the family. She looks out for her sisters. She is in school.
Carol - (F, 60s) Carol has just lost her husband of 39 years to cancer. She can be brash and can speak without thinking.
Mark - (M, Mid to late 30s) Mark is a teacher, married to Abby with three kids. He’s smart and funny and easy to be around. He recently had an affair with Colleen but is trying to make his marriage work.
Abby - (F, Early 30s) Abby is a homemaker and married to Mark. They have three kids. She is pretty and may not be book smart but she’s tenacious.
Dan - (M, Early 40s) Dan is a Pastor and a widower. He’s practical and warm and down to earth. He has known all these people a long time.
*Please note, one of these roles is reserved for a member of our company, which will be determined through the casting process.
Audition Requirements
Please be prepared to read sides for your preferred role. Memorization is not required, but familiarity with all sides is encouraged as you may be asked to read more than one side for multiple characters. We are looking for simple, truthful, grounded acting. Come prepared to play!
Other Notes
This play contains strong language.
We will also be working with an intimacy coordinator, as there are scenes between Mark and Colleen and Colleen and Dan that will require intimacy direction. More information on intimacy requirements for these characters will be released upon application to audition or upon request.
Please send your headshot and resume to auditions@littledippertheatre.com to secure a time slot and receive your sides.
